The Global Food Problem
Our world has limited resources, yet we treat it with little recourse and responsibility. The impact of food waste is often underestimated because we don’t realize how much we contribute to this problem each day. Whenever we throw away excess food, we waste not just money, but also our resources — the land, water, and labor used to make them. This adds up to 3.3 billion tons of CO2 emissions yearly. Most food establishments do the same, throwing out perfectly edible food each day. That’s food that could be feeding mouths that instead goes into landfills. Contrast this with the growing worldwide demand for food, and we face an alarming gap. People want more food, but why is so much of it thrown away?
